Many parents find it difficult to carve out time for themselves. Getting away takes careful planning and a willingness to let go, whether you are leaving for a few hours or a few days.
Hear me out. If you can take some time for yourself, you and your family will be better for it. Let me share 6 big reasons parents need self-care:
1. Your family will hold down the fort without you. All of you will see that while your presence is immense, the world still turns. They are capable.
2. Your kid(s) might miss you. That will be ok. Even if you have a kid who worries, they will grow from this experience. So will you.
3. If you have a partner, you will appreciate one another more. You may see them with fresh eyes, and they will understand your role and doings in the family more too.
4. You will gain further clarity about what you need and want in your life.
5. You will parent with more gratefulness in your heart. Absence does make the heart grow fonder.
6. Lastly, you are the BIGGEST influence in your child’s life. Show them what friendship, self-care, and self-love is all about.
In a culture moving at mach speed, show your daughter that slowing down is essential to living well.
Discover Your Self-Care
While there are more than 6 big reasons parents need self-care, what is important is to unearth your own reasons and follow them. Remember, being a parent is only part of who you are. Don’t forget to stay in touch with who you are and who you are becoming.
