While having devices is an exciting experience for tweens and teens, it also comes with many downfalls. Tween and teens benefit to learn about the importance of developing solid etiquette, balance, and boundaries with their device and social media use. A conversation on etiquette, balance, and boundaries is essential for parents to have with their children as they engage with social media. Without these essential concepts in their mind, devices and social media can quickly take over and cause mild to severe problems in their life, contributing to procrastination, poor grades, decrease in sleep and functioning, and feeling disconnected even when they appear connected. Also, dependence on social media and phones can erupt. However, knowledge is power. With good information given by the people who love them most (that’s you mom and dad), your tween/teen can understand the importance of balance and boundaries and live with joy.
